Get involved with hospital volunteering in Sheffield

All sorts of people get involved in all sorts of ways. Whether you are interested in broadcasting, patient visiting patients, technical, fundraising, producing content off air, or helping out with administration, there’s alway something exciting.

If you are interested in joining us, you can either write to us at our studio, addressed to the Membership Officer, giving us some details about yourself, and why you’re interested in joining the station, alternatively you can use our online contact form. You can also email the membership officer on the following email: membership@sheffieldhospitalradio.co.uk

Unfortunately we are not able to take work experience students or placements.

Either way, our we’ll contact you back and arrange an informal meeting, where you can meet some members and chat about the station.

Once we’ve agreed that you’re going forward with us your details will then be passed to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for their volunteer vetting procedure. This includes a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously known as CRB) due to the nature of work that we undertake within hospitals and other parts of the NHS. If you do not consent a DBS check we will not be able to process your application to join.

Everybody is a volunteer and we understand that personal life can interfere with your volunteer commitments, but we do ask that everyone gets involved in at least four fundraising events a year. 

All our volunteers are unpaid but we don’t think that volunteering should leave you out of pocket so we take part in a scheme where travel expenses are reimbursed by the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Membership Officer can give you details of how to make a claim.

Access to the studios at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital is restricted since they can only be accessed via several flights of stairs which are only accessible on foot.
