Rich Oxley, our current vice-chair and treasurer is taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, in aid of Sheffield Hospital Radio.

On the 16th April, Rich with two friends  will conquer (or hope to) three of the Yorkshire Dales toughest climbs. The group will climb to the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. all in under twelve hours, and covering a distance of twenty six miles.

Whernside - standing at 736 meters, is the toughest challenge of them all.

Whernside – standing at 736 meters, is the toughest challenge of them all.

Sheffield Hospital Radio isn’t the only charity to benefit from this event, Rich’s two friends will also be raising money for their chosen charities close to their heart. The Christie, a specialist cancer treatment hospital in Manchester, and Iwan Clarke who at the age of ten, was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Yet to find a cure, his family are aiming to raise up to £200,000 for a new pioneering treatment over in the U.S. You can read more about the groups individual stories and donate here.

The group have already managed to secure just over £400 of donations, but Rich has set the teams height higher:” Our target is £1000, so anything close to that would be a fantastic achievement!”

The challenge doesn’t pose to be an easy one either.

“Twenty Six Miles on that terrain will be gruelling, but the money raised, will mean it’s all be worthwhile. It’s something that means so much to people in the group. We can’t wait to get going.”

Everyone at Sheffield Hospital Radio wishes the group of the best. If you want to find out more, you can email Rich at:
