Jon Price
I have been a volunteer radio presenter at Sheffield Hospital Radio for 21 years, mainly on the Friday Night Request Show - presenting song requests to patients in the Sheffield Adult Hospitals, playing classic pop/rock and varied genres of music, and producing my own (often quirky!) features.
I have also interviewed some local band members and other celebrities - including Phil Oakey from Sheffield's 1980s pop group, The Human League. Through the years, I've collected money and broadcast at many SHR radio roadshows, in order to raise funds for ourselves as we are a registered charity. These roadshows usually take place at the Sharrow Vale Markets, and also at various supermarkets around the Sheffield area. In the last few years, I have undertaken a Fundraising and Events Coordinator role on the Committee.
I am really looking forward to broadcasting to all Sheffield Adult Hospital (and Local Care Home Patients, etc.) via our new internet service. I would recommend volunteering at SHR Radio to people of all ages and backgrounds, because it's fulfilling to cheer people up - especially as approximately 40% of the patients around the wards do not receive any visitors during their stay in hospital.
